Upcoming Auditions for the 2017–2018 Choir Year

Auditions for the 2017-2018 choir year will be held in the spring and summer on the dates listed below:

  • Thursday, August 24, 5:30 – 6:30

Who can join?

Any child in Grades 4 – 12 who loves to sing will be considered. Voice placements are “child friendly,” positive and serve as an evaluation so that students are assigned to the appropriate choir based on their skill level, experience and age.

What is the level of commitment required?

Singers are expected to participate fully in the choir program. This means consistent attendance for weekly rehearsals, ranging from 1-2 hours a week, depending on the choir level and performances throughout the year.

What is the cost?

Membership in the choir requires a modest tuition and registration fee. Partial scholarships are available for eligible singers.

Are there scholarships available?

Participation in GYC has made a significant difference in the lives of our singers. Unfortunately, some families cannot afford this type of positive experience for their children. Every year, we encounter families that encourage their children to audition, but are unable to participate because of financial reasons. Due to the success of the Carolina Chocolate Drops Benefit Concert, GYC has established a scholarship fund allowing economically disadvantaged children in our community the opportunity to participate in this enriching and life changing experience.

For those needing financial assistance, please contact Cathy Connor, for additional information.

Where are auditions held?

Auditions are held at the Van Dyke Performance Space, located on the first floor of the Cultural Arts Center, 200 N. Davie Street in downtown Greensboro.

GYC Singers, grades 4–12, come from throughout the Piedmont Triad. We have a diverse group of kids brought together by the love of singing. Our singers attend public, private and home schools. In addition to receiving a first-rate performance and music education experience, participation in GYC also fosters personal growth traits such as responsibility, commitment and flexibility.
